Country Folks Play

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

When I was a child my daddy, Lemmie, made a flying ginny
What in the world is that, you might ask?
Well it was a home made tilt-a-whirl of that day
Daddy cut a tree down and that left a stump,
He hooked a long plank to the stump, then he placed boards on top
And that made the seat. This wasn’t run by electricity,
It was manpower that made it go,
A kid on each end and one in the middle
To make it go faster you had to push and run
The kids of the community loved to have fun
They would come to our house on Sunday afternoon
To ride on the flying ginny with all of us
Everyone took turns to push and to ride
What fun it was even when we would skin our hide
That is the way country folk talk
We knew how to have fun with the flying ginny, made by Lemmie.

Computers

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

God, only a few years ago,
I had no idea how to turn on a computer.
Now, I have friends all over the globe
That You have sent, that only You could have known.

You gave me a gift that surprised me so.
Prose and poetry just popped into my head.
Never before, there was no interest there.
In college, I hated to write.

My English professor thought I was quite a sight.
He thought I was fun, caring, and even bright;
Couldn’t understand why I did not like to write.
Christian writers are all over the place.

Joyce fixes my poetry and places it on line.
There is a Church Mouse that sends them out.
Answers 2 Prayer is a place to check out.
None of these wonderful folks have I met;
Only on this internet.

On line, they seem like my sisters,
brothers, or cousins.
We will meet, someday, in Heaven, I know.
But through the computer, we put on a show.

Check out Christian Poetry
and you will meet them there.
It is through poetry that we have so much to share.
I am so thankful for the computer.

Christian Duty

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

It is my Christian duty to love you even if you are unlovable
It is my Christian duty to forgive you for being ugly
It is my Christian duty to not talk about you
It is my Christian duty to do nice things for you
Gee, that is a lot of Christian duties and I wonder how I did
The test is when I look within myself and see what I am like
Do I measure up to what my Christian duties are
Have I wandered away from my God so very far
That I do not recognize how little I love
How selfish I am and do not want to reach out to you
Do I feel I am so far superior to you that I cannot relate
Am I angry enough at you or jealous to just leave you alone
Never to speak or help when you are in need
It is not just my Christian duty to do these things
My walk with my Lord Jesus will explain this you see
I pray today for you and yours that I might be there for you
I love you my friend because God gave you to me
So let bygones be bygones and let us settle this
Let us get it together and do what we must
Love one another and do our very best

Complainers

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I know, you are probably like me,

Afraid to ask, “How do you feel?”
So often, I listen for quite a long time.

They love to tell me all that is wrong,

Some are worse off than all the rest,

Even if we have had the same test!

Things may be exactly the same.

But, they like too much to complain.

I wonder, sometimes, why our precious Lord puts up
With all the whining and complaining that we do.

People, that are sick, should go see the doctor.
We can listen to that until the next episode.

I want to grow old gracefully and let others see in me
The Jesus I know, that had to hang from that tree.

What an example for you and for me.

He did not complain!
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for enduring the pain

That took my sins away and look what I gained.

If someone asks, “How do you feel?”

Tell them, “Just fine!”
You will be a witness

And can be very kind.

Some people love the attention

That they think they are getting
When, in reality, others are not patient

With that kind of people.

Now, I suppose that I

Must quit complaining!

Church Family

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

There are many lonely people

In this old world.
They sit home and dwell

On the loneliness they feel.

Some go to the centers and

Play cards or games all day,
Just another boring day

To pass the time away.

I have a church family and

I love the people like family.
There is so much that goes on,

I have to pick and choose
What is expected of me

Or what I would like to do.

In a church family,

You make lots of friends.
When lonely, pick up the phone

Or run out to see them.
 God is so good

To give us a spiritual family
That reaches out to those

Who cannot come in.
 On Sunday, we worship

A Cherished Mother

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

My mother has gone to be with Jesus, now.
She was the epitome for those that loved Him.

My mother raised five children who she adored.
Her work was never complete, her children’s needs she had to meet.

She taught me right from wrong by scriptures she read.
My desire was to please her, by example she led.

There were times I misbehaved and a switch she would get.
Oh, I would cry and surely have a fit.
Her teachings I honored and will never forget.

My mother loved me and she wanted me to do well.
She wanted me to be in God’s will and not to fail.

I will cherish her memory as long as I live.
She is the example that I pray I can instill.
