Fair Oak Springs

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Fair Oak Springs, now isn’t that a name ?
The folks that live there or went to school
Called it Fair Oak Springs, We country folk make up our names
This is the school I attended for twelve wonderful years
There is a bond between folks that attended there
That you can not explain to outsiders you see
We love each other and care what they think
A bond that the whole bunch of us feel
For some city folks they probably could not deal
With the fact we are friends and friends forever
Like the young folks today make a pledge to do
It is unspoken for this old crew
The school was closed in nineteen-sixty
Memories go on as we look back

This was the best time of our life
Some teachers were great, some were good
That was what the kids understood
Now we are old and look back on those years and see
We weren’t the greatest on their nerves indeed!!

Four Bedrooms and a Pantry

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Twenty two years I prayed for my house
Knowing I would not own one until my husband retired from the USMC
I prayed for four bedrooms and a pantry
Never did I ask for a special house
Military housing showed me what I wanted
That was for my three boys to have a room of their own
A place where I could put all my groceries
Just space I wanted and asked HIM to oblige
He did just that in HIS own time
We looked and prayed for the house He had made
Then one day a lady came into my life
She said, for me to come to see her house
I will sell it to you if you would like
As we walked into the house, there they were
The desires of my heart I could see
Four bedrooms and a pantry in a beautiful setting
I thank my God for the answered prayer
The house became our home and HE lives there
Thank God for what you have today, then ask HIM for your need
He will answer your prayers and give you the desires of your heart
God has promised you that when you give Him your life
I am so thankful for the four bedrooms and a pantry!!!

A Foolish Mistake

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

I bought a cute new car the first year that I taught school
Never had much money, never gave it a thought
On the way to school one day a gas truck turned in front of me
I was hurt and my little blue car was totaled
A few months passed and due to the help from a wonderful man
I had a huge check in my hand
So frightened to see that much money made out to me
Gave some money to my parents so they could pay their bills
Bought pulpit furniture for a little church down the hill
Looked around one down and saw this beautiful thunderbird
Walked in and bought it with very few words
A foolish mistake as I soon learned
The money was gone
I was the one burned!!!

Friendship

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Friendship is that special something, like being saved
It is a spot that is empty and something we crave
In this lifetime it is hard to find someone that loves you
Regardless of the circumstance in your life today
There is that one that is there regardless of the pay
To lift your spirits and let you talk your pain away
Will not leave you nor allow you to fall into a pit
Where you feel there is no one that cares for you one bit
Friendship is when you can get up and run out the door
To visit that one that feels so left out or just bored
If you feel lonely, depressed and forlorn
Then get up and make a friend and be happy you were born
Many a person that we pass each day or so troubled and torn
They may not stop and tell you how alone they are
Maybe an illness has been diagnosed and there world is dark
If we look at Jesus as He wept over his friend
Don’t you think it is time for a friendship to began

Friday

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

People start on Monday thinking about TGIF.
I remember when I first heard these initials
many years ago, I wondered why we don’t like Monday.
The rest of the week, can be lots of fun.
We need to enjoy one day at a time.
Don’t be a crank, have fun everyday.
Today is called Good Friday, the day Our
Lord went to the Cross.
He did that so we would not be lost.
What a day this represents, then comes Sunday,
the day He was resurrected, Oh happy day!
Think of all the good things that happened on Friday.
The week-end is here and you can have fun.
Do as you please for the week-end is here.
You may work in the yard, clean the house
and hopefully go to church.
Why are you rushing your week to go by?
Enjoy everyday, don’t whine or cry!

FATHER WHAT TIME IS IT?

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

As another day is passing by

Did I use it wisely, if not why

It seems I never finish all that was planned

Father what time is it?

You give me all these minutes per day

I want so much to do what you have to say

Am I wasting it by doing my thing

I read my bible, prayed and even sang

Father what time is it?

I only want to please you

Doing the ministry you called me to do

Don’t know if I am getting it right

My desire is to be useful in your sight

Father what time is it?

I ask you about the time

Since it belongs to you and is not mine

To waste because it goes so quickly

Father what time is it?

Show me what you would have me to do

Is it to visit the sick or share the gospel

I know you want everyone to know  you

That is surely what I want to do

Father what time is it?

Before the time runs out on today

would you show me, if you want me to go or to stay

I will run errands for those that need me

I will sit still and know that you are here

Father what time is it?

Father I am here wanting to serve you now

Before my time runs out and the darkness comes

You have a plan just for me to do

Show me your timing since I have no clue

Father what time is it?

First Baptist Homecoming

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

A happy homecoming we celebrate this day
Old friends and new friends are coming through the door
To look into the faces that we have not seen for awhile
Saying hello, we have missed seeing your smile
Missing so many that have gone to be with the Lord
Those that have moved away, or just couldn’t make it today
Some have come a short distance, some many miles
First Baptist has probably changed since you were last here
Just wait until you see what is being built up Highway 51, my dear
A vision of our pastor that will soon be so clear
We want to thank you for coming and to share in this day
That was prepared for you, how we wish you could stay
Our doors are open for you to come and see us
If you don’t have a ride we will send you the bus
What a day to rejoice as we see each of you
Can you just imagine what it will be like
On that great homecoming day, when we see the Saints in the sky
Gathered around Jesus,His face we long to see
Today is our homecoming that just had to be
For us to get together it is you we wanted to seeHappy Homecoming –Enjoy this Day!!!
