My SICK Friend

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I went to see a friend today,
She has been very ill
As I sat and look at this little frail body,
I thought I would cry in spite of myself
No indeed I couldn’t do that,
As she smiled so sweetly at everything I said
She was lonely and needed someone to come by
Down the road they go, passing by her house
If only she could continue to reach out,
She would be with them if they were in need
Oh how much she has meant to me
She has often made encouraging phone calls
Just to say hi and that I wish you well
If that were me, could I smile as she?
People are too busy to stop and say hi,
To share a little happiness before they die
Do you know someone who is ill?
Let them know they are important still,
You miss them and wanted them to know
They are thought of today, rain, shine, sleet or snow.

My Friend

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

You are my friend and
I have no doubt
That God looked around to find
The right friend for me.

He sent you into my life
That I might share and love ~
The one that is much like me
Wherein we can do things together.

God doesn’t make mistakes and
He didn’t when He sent you to me.
I needed a friend that was sincere
And cared about me.

Unconditional friendship
Is so hard to find
That I was often lonely
And had no one to turn …

To share my happiness
And my heartaches, too,
Until He decided
That I needed you.

Friends are so special
When they are Christ-centered.
Like you, I have learned
There are those you can trust.

So often, the ones in whom
We think we can confide
Are those that often hurt us more
Than we can comprehend.

Something is missing
In people like that.
Those are the ones I run from
As fast as I can.

You are my friend and
I am so thankful for you,
Someone to care that
I am lonely, sometimes .

And need a phone call or note
To just get me through the day.
You are always there and how grateful I am
That God saw fit to send you my way!

My Doctor

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

My doctor is great and has time for me
He is the one that I look forward to see
When my fever is high and my head is hurting
I want to go to someone that cares I am there
As he walks in the room, you are sitting and waiting
Scared half to death and your blood pressure is up
The white coat is frightening in deed
My doctor cares and he puts me at ease
A smile on his face and a very nice greeting
Shaking my hand and seeing what I need
A great man, my doctor, who does the right things
Loves his God, his family and friends
This includes his patients, you can plainly see
Doctors are blessing that are from God above
I thank Him for Dr. Sikes who is tops in his field
He respects each person and that I love
If I have a chance to my friends I refer them
To the best one I know and to him many go
Thank you Dr. Sikes for the care that you give
To all that go to you to be healed!!!

My Dear Old Classmates

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I went to a school reunion and guess who I saw
Members of my small class of nine, there was a total of six there
We hugged and remembered when we were growing up
What a wonderful life, so happy and free
Not a care in the world that anyone could see
So wonderful to remember-we didn’t know what worry meant
No stress was had by any one of us, we were loved by each other, our teachers and family
The teachers were wonderful and cared so much for each one
Oh, we did things we should not have done, but we had fun
Our hearts are the same but the rest has changed, gray hair and a bit of a pouch on some no doubt
That doesn’t matter, when you know that all those old friends
Are Christians and very active in their churches
God is a big part of our lives and that is the most wonderful thing about my dear old friends
We are members of the family of God, a closeness we have that is shared by all
Nine good friends of long ago are brothers and sisters in this Christ we know
I am so thankful for these classmates of years gone by that it is the Lord Jesus that we rely

May God continue to bless this class, Vondell, Catherine, Annalo, Sarah and Doris
The boys were John, James, Dan and Buck, I wish all of them God’s blessings and lots of luck!!!!!

Fair Oak Springs

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Fair Oak Springs, now isn’t that a name ?
The folks that live there or went to school
Called it Fair Oak Springs, We country folk make up our names
This is the school I attended for twelve wonderful years
There is a bond between folks that attended there
That you can not explain to outsiders you see
We love each other and care what they think
A bond that the whole bunch of us feel
For some city folks they probably could not deal
With the fact we are friends and friends forever
Like the young folks today make a pledge to do
It is unspoken for this old crew
The school was closed in nineteen-sixty
Memories go on as we look back

This was the best time of our life
Some teachers were great, some were good
That was what the kids understood
Now we are old and look back on those years and see
We weren’t the greatest on their nerves indeed!!

Thank A Vet

Friday, March 13th, 2009

I would like to thank the Vets
that have served

To protect us, every day,
in their own way.

They go to foreign lands
that they can not say,

Leaving loved ones behind
to go where they may;

To fight for our freedom and,
so often, we don’t say
‘Thank you for leaving your
free life behind, going
Where the battles are fought,
in the heat or snow.

I want to thank you for all
the wars that you fought.

The world wars were something
that you did not desire.
Yet, you went where they sent you, for service to aspire.
Purple hearts were given
to those that were hurt.
Air medals were earned because
of you being an expert.

Thank you, dear Vet,
for giving to me freedom, today,
Because you picked up your
duffel bag and went far away.
You did not ask to be sent
to Vietnam.
When you got home things
were not calm.

People were unhappy because
of the war and never said ‘thanks’;
Regardless of your status,
your pain, or your rank.
You came back as brothers,
with a bond for each other.
Thank you, dear Vet,
for leaving your sisters and brothers.

We appreciate you that were
called on for Desert Storm.
You never complained
or came home forlorn.
The spirit was there
(of the red, white and blue).
Thank you for being so brave
and so true.

Iraq frightened you
and this we all know.
But, did you ever put on a show
For the world to see how
brave that you are?
To me you all are a
bright shining star.

Thank you VET!!!!

D-Day

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Today is D-Day and many do not have a clue

That you showed the Germans it was you

Who saved so many lives that day

Many died and many wounded they say

You are our hero as we remember D-Day

Because of a cricket from a cracker Jack’s box

The other soldiers knew you were close by

When they heard the click they knew you were there

To bring them home to the ones that cared

Together you fought for a freedom that day

You hit the beaches for the USA

Together with a toy you knew your friend was close by

My brother in law was there and he did not die

Oh how thankful we are for what you did

You are our hero’s and we are so proud

That you hit the beaches of Normandy June 6, 1944

So we could be free because of another war

Thank you dear vets–We are proud of you!!!!

In honor of my brother in law Don Hemphill who resides in Brookhaven, Mississippi

Two Little Men

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

As I went from place to place
I kept seeing these two little men
Always together and not saying much
Just looking at them I wanted to meet them
It just seemed they needed a friend
As I was talking to God one day, I asked Him
Could I meet these two little men
Would you believe at my doctors office one day
These two little men were there
I introduced myself
They were happy and now we are friends
I go visit and let them know I care
The older one, told me I was the only visitor they have
Thank you Lord for putting these two little men in my path
It is my pleasure they are in my life.

School Reunion

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Have you been to a school reunion?
You don’t know what you missed
Our school was so small we do not have class reunions
This week-end, I attended mine and needless to say
I did not recognize the old friends of long ago
Had to look at a name tag to say hello
What fun it was to reminisce of days long ago
Half I remembered and half I did not know
When someone remembered an antic of mine
I just laughed and acted just fine
My classmates and friends aren’t eighteen anymore
Yet they are so special and I love them even more
Many a gray hair and a stomach with a pouch
Looked great on those folks that I couldn’t live without
The beauty queens are grandmothers now
The hunks of the school, I couldn’t pick out
All were alike in one sense of the word
They were my dear old friends that will always be
Very special to me, regardless of what you see!!!

My Old Ceramic Cat

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

One of my sons asked me one day what was my most precious knick-knack
I didn’t hesitate to say that old yellow ceramic cat
It has been on the floor for twenty years or more
My mother had a dear black friend from childhood
Epp, took a ceramic class in her later years and made a yellow cat
She came by our house that afternoon and gave it to my mother
I will never forget how mama treasured that old cat
Now I treasure it, when I look at it lying on my floor
I remember the day that two dear old friends hugged
Over a yellow ceramic cat, it brought back sweet memories for them
When they were girls and played with real cats
It is worthless to anyone but me
I love my old yellow cat because it was so precious to my mama
A friendship that had gone on for more than fifty years or so
I wonder if anyone would give me their one and only
Old ceramic cat!!!
